Well….that happened.
Twenty foot container. It’ll be delivered in about two weeks. Now Im researching all the accessories, improvements, and modifications that can be done with something like this. As soon as this thing is situated I’ll start moving some of the larger, bulkier things up there which will, ideally, give me some more room around the house.

The difference in price between the used vs. new was less than a grand. The newer one had better venting to deal with condensation, had a better lock cover, and didnt have the concerns about toxic cargo permeating it. Also, I figured thered be less chance of pre-existing leaks from rust. Regardless I’m looking into coating the roof with some roofing/waterproofing compound.
I’ve know people who put car ports over them, as it worked out cheaper than building a roof.
Have you gaven any thought to getting it spray painted one sold colour before it’s taken up there, OD Green, Dark Earth or just Tan. It’ll be far less work where it is now.
Painting it is definitely part of the plan. Painting it in the parking lot here in town or painting it in the boonies, seems about the same effort.
Forget about any roof coating or sealant. Designed to sit out in saltwater environments. If anything a sloped roof to shed snow,gather water. Paint is top quality industrial grade. Will have to sand to rougher surface for anything to stick longer than a couple years
Purchase two more containers and place them together on a good foundation. Then build your 400 – 500 sqft cabin on top with an 8ft deck all the way around. This provides semi-secure storage / garage below that allows easy access in deep snow. Build cabin with metal siding and roof for good fire protection on your new lookout / retreat.
Maybe place the three containers in a “U” shape that allows a 20ft wide drive in garage… lots of possibilities.

These guys have some good stuff. I’m planning to order some stuff to modify the 20’ container at my home place.
There is a product called Vipeq that is some type of polymer/cork that I had sprayed on the south wall of the house. In direct sun the masonry surface temp was 140 degrees (!) and the Vipeq right next to it was at 100. Some of those Conex floors are marine grade plywood which is crazy expensive right now. Might want to protect it.
