Why can’t you hunt mule deer in your area? That seems really odd for Montana the hunters dream state!
Dunno. I think they manage it so that it becomes a trophy mule deer area and then limit the number of permits for the area.
I believe, in order to really have a chance, you’ll need to get above him…
Just a thought, find a stout tree about 30-40 yards away from this travel lane…
and get a good quality tree climber… this way you’ll have a great chance to avoid alerting him with either scent or movement…
Forgot to mention…
A folding, or collapsible, rifle stock works best in a climber…
Personally, I use a 130 grain .270 ballistic tip and Remington model 70
with a Simmons Aetec 2.8-10×40 scope with sun cover…

Let him pass the genetics,meat is old and tough. Now a one to two year old doe is good eating. Only reason I took my ten pt. was the antlers to rattle with.
