I thought you might like it. Y’know, to project the proper small-town friendly attitude towards the neighbors likely to drop in unannounced.
Taking it a bit further: “Sure, I’d love for you to visit. BTW, how much do you weigh? Oh, um, I’m out of Tabasco, could you bring some?” OK, a bit too far before SHTF.
That sleek looking beastie can perch and strike from trees. Be alert out there. I’ve seen them in my northern WI woods several times also.
You need a big, loud, aggressive dog with you at all times.
They forewarn. Those few seconds of bark and attack will save your life. Will give you time to take aim. Seriously!
I’ve never truly dug deep fact checking this but I believe it to be true. By and large cats are afraid of dogs. People have used dogs to hunt cats for a long time.
Nothing to worry about.
Among the outdoorsman I know, very few have ever seen a lion. We see their tracks and their shit, but they avoid man-especially healthy men. They know the smell of steel and gun oil. Opportunistic hunters are like that-they tackle the easiest game they can get. Less risk, more reward.
Guarantee the cat has seen you and wants nothing to do with you.
May be, but I’ll probably take more seriously that “I feel like somethings watching me” feeling. But, like everything up there (except the humans) my policy is “You leave me alone on my property, I’ll leave you alone on my property”.
Made me think of an edition of The Man Show (Jimmy Kimmel has gone bad, but some of the old shows were good). On the episode I remember, he was talking about the health aspects of cat meat. High in protein, low in cholesterol. Just sayin.
And here I get excited when I see a groundhog. It was reared up, stretched out and peering at me through the sliding glass patio door. I woulda shot it but I like that door.
Here, kitty, kitty!
Several years old I was walking to my deer stand in the dark & had a weird feeling that something was following me. Later when I was walking out my footprints had a big cat track in each one, I don’t go to the stand with an empty gun anymore.
Odd shaped stick is an unloaded gun. Cats do not get mad like bears. Probably won’t see it in real life. Still would not wander about without a hand cannon.
as you spend more time there – and – humanize the overall scent – you’ll be attracting other wildlife and some of these current guys will be moving on ……
I don’t hear of many attacks from cougars in the wild. City edge – yes, mainly pets. These animals have large territories – I consider your property lucky to have them.
Consider adding some eyes to the back of your hat. Big cats normally attack from the rear, as ambush hunters. A set of eyes looking at them tend to deter them, according to people living in Africa. They want to go for the neck from the rear, as that is the safest way to attack most animals for them. Hazardous from the front, which is where most eyes normally are.
Also, why would anyone walk around in the woods with an unloaded gun?
I have a feeling you’ll soon be giving them names.
Dinner.
Casserole.
Midnight snack.
Fido (there has to be one)
Never name the livestock.
Mike V:
So, not Sylvester and Yogi/Boo-boo?
I have a mental image of CZ wearing a bearskin hoodie with a cat cape while in town gathering supplies.
That sounds pretty cool, actually.

And they like to kill just for the sake of killin’.
F!!!!!!
Stay strapped or get snacked!
Looks lean and hungry
Holy shit bro. Wow you done won the bugout lottery. Think you can tame them to do your bidding?
I’m picturing them in little body armor and NODs roaming in pairs.
The next will be Sasquatch.
Seems you will be looking up a bit more than you thought.

In all reality though, those things scare me.

Few things are as worthless as an empty gun…
Expensive club?
