Magpul 9mm happysticks…only three years late

Dang near three years ago Magpul announced that they were introducing 27-rd happysticks for the Glock 9mm.

And then……nothing…as I noted almost a year and a half later….

Just in time for hedging my bets against 2020:

Source.

I ordered….uhm….25….and got free shipping and a bulk discount that lowered it to $17 per magazine. I need to go out to the range tomorrow to adjust the new sights on the G17 so these will come along for the ride.

Anyone know of a leather maker who will make Galco Miami Classic compatible mag pouches that’ll hold extended mags like this?

Your average G17 carried 17 freedom seeds…If the day comes when you need a spare reload of 27 rounds, your life has pegged the needle on the Interesting-O-Meter. However, given the amount of 9mm carbines that take Glock mags these days, why wouldnt you have a dozen of these? True fact: I was going to order a hundred to put away in Deep Sleep but just couldn’t bring myself to commit to that kind of expense. I settled for 25…for this month.

  1. They’ve made 33s for a while, other than meeting the 170MM IPSC rule limit I don’t see a significant difference between the 27s and the 33s. In any case, if one had a carbine-size tool and found they were frequently running either size dry repelling boarders it might be time to employ something utilizing a cartridge with a bit more snort.

That said, I’m eagerly awaiting the range report, because that 6-round delta does look a little like the difference between a magazine and a kickstand.

  2. ETS just released 40 round Glock happy sticks at Shotshow. Say will be shipping in Spring.
    Saw on full30.com

      • Look at ETS website, the 40 round are not up there but the 30 round .40 & 31 round 9 are on there. I the video I reference they say the 40 round is new & not out until later in the year.
        Sorry for the double post.

  3. I stumbled across a list of old Nike Missle sites on Wikipedia (what isn’t on Wikipedia?) and thought I’d share. Thanks to the whole Fortress Puget Sound deal it turns out there was a site right down the road from where I grew up. But most Nike stuff was decommissioned before I was born. I always miss the fun stuff.

  5. Unless you are concerned about style, you might consider looking for a ballistic nylon belt mount multi-mag holder. Just need to rob the strap fittings off an accessory, and rivet them on. I did this for my 1911 mags, and now have four. I suspect, though, that you will have to have them position vertically, due to the length. The nylon rig for the HK mp-5 hangs 3 or 4 long mags, IIRC. (been a while since I’ve seen one) They probably would hold Glock mags. I’ve seen copies in gun shows, but, been years since I’ve been in one (they suck in CA).
I mix and match leather and nylon on shoulder rigs. Generally, the ammo carriers are lower profile in nylon (less bulky, more flexible). Holster is always leather, so far.

  6. Glad I’m not the only one thinking about the extendo’s in a Galco shoulder rig. Few months ago spoke with a local leather maker about a similar pouch for their 21rd mags in a Miami Classic rig. He said he could make one, but it’ll be around $60 due to the forming and design of it. I’d have to supply him the rig and two mags for up to 4 months for him to get it made for me. Still trying to figure if it’s worth it or not. I had a hard enough time to choose between a black or brown shoulder rig

  7. Some of my shoulder rigs have multiple snaps for different mag lengths. I suspect it would work if you made an extender strap for your standard carrier.
Stick a long one in it, and eyeball where the original flap snap would sit. Might have to change that if they end up in an awkward location, although a bit of foam filler glued into the bottom of the cup would push the mag out a bit, if needed.

Another thing I’ve done is add a pinch adjustment to give some stiction, so things don’t just fall out under their own weight. A screw with washers and a rubber piece for compression will work. Annoying to have a gun or mag slip out due to the thumb break being tripped. That’s too loose a fit.

I generally reform the thumb piece to not stick straight out. I bend it down and away from the gun, more body fitting, and more ergonomic for the thumb. Instead of out, away from the gun, which is hard to do in some cases, it now wipes off with more of a down sweep. No more missed draw.
