Forgot to pat myself on the back

I was so wrapped up in the Current Situation that I overlooked something – two weeks ago was the 17th anniversary of this waste of electrons. Yes indeedy, 2003 is when I started blogging. I do believe that makes me one of theoldest preparedness blogs (although that definition may be suspect) still in business. In my time here I’ve seen a lot of blogs come and go. I’m still here ‘cuz….well…I’ve got nothing better to do.

In that time…Peak Oil, Bird Flu, H1N1, Ebola, SARS, Mayan calendar, Obama I, Obama II, and a host of other events. And..we’re still here. Which means either we are really good survivalists or we’ve just bee lucky so far. Honestly, Im more inclined to believe the latter.

Anyway, I realized this evening that I had overlooked the anniversary and figured I’d address that.

How many more years of this? Beats me. At least a few more years I suspect.

  1. I didn’t tune in till this was already a teenager, but it has been fun to hit the rewind button and watch it grow up. Keep up the ~good work.

  2. I’ve always enjoyed your Blog. Thanks for your time and effort.
Your 17th Year Anniversary present would be “Furniture”.

  3. Good job, you had Obama I & 2, but maybe MO 1 this fall? Have fun, be safe

  4. Can’t forget the Gulf Oil Spill (Deepwater Horizon), that was one I didn’t see coming. For a while there, they were predicting a swath of land 600 miles deep from the Gulf would have to be evacuated.

Seventeen years – damn, you stuck with it. Congratulations on your blog’s birthday. And thanks for keeping the lights on.

  5. Peak Oil….wow theres a memory. Wonder where those sheep wandered off to. Congrats on the Anniversary!

  6. Congratulations!

Always enjoy your observations and wit – and enjoy chatting it up with you remotely from time to time… You and Remus are like friends 🙂

  7. Thanks for being there! Like Survivormann99 said ‘You write it, I’ll keep reading’! Always enjoy your point of view. Be safe!

  8. Keep it up buddy…nice job. Im not sure when it was that I read the blog first but it was first term Obama Im pretty sure. It is both entertaining and thought provoking on a consistent basis.

  9. I’ve been reading the blog for years, and I have aways found it insightful, well reasoned, and lacking in the unhinged paranoia you find elsewhere.

Keep up the good work, and than you.

  10. A hearty well done, and a big thanks for an insightful, timely, and fun blog. Let’s hope this bump in the road looks the same as those others in our rear view.

  11. Add, Iraq invasion ll and occupation, Fukishima disaster,Hurricane Katrina and Sandy. Still waiting for”Big One” in Cali. Thanks for the insight and entertainment.

  12. Commander:
Thanks for your continued good work!
One of the things I really enjoy about this site is that (unlike Rawles) you don’t consider yourself a missionary…
You have your views but don’t try to force them down our throats –
    Long may you continue.

  13. There are some sites, blogs, vlogs, etc. that are entertaining, informative, thought provoking, scary at times and just plain cool. Few hit several of those categories to keep my interest. You’re hits all of those marks, and then some.

There is a ton of sites to read once, maybe twice.
Sometimes, I add an icon to my desktop for an easy click to go to one that I want to read daily.
I have an icon for here.

    Congratulations, and thank you.
    Keep on keeping on Sir.

  14. To say, as above, that you are an icon is quite true. You remained quite reliable in content and stance which is also rare. But the most amusing thing is that next year your blog will be legal.

    Hooey, I crack myself up.

  15. I started here in 2011, right before the great calendar expire. Was very worried about what would happen. But after reading the things you put down it changed my life. Thank you for that and everything you have put forth since that time. We might not always comment on your blog but we are watching and reading. Thanks again for everything.
