Thought for the day

Received from someone in email:

To quote DeNiro in ‘The Untouchables’…”Like a lot of things in life, we laugh because its funny and we laugh because its true.”

I’m feeling a bit under the weather today so posting might be thin for the next day or two. Talk amongst yourselves.

  1. Hopefully the BS isn’t getting you down. I confess the onslaught has had an impact on my mood. Just need to let it slide off my back – and go shopping for the next gun acquisition! Like your graphic! 🙂

  2. How about when: It’s not a secret, but you just haven’t found all of them at once for so long you have forgotten how many you have?

    • Paranoid – the corollary to your comment is that if you know exactly how many you have (without checking your list of make/model/serial number – you do have that don’t you?) and exactly where they are, you probably don’t have quite enough…………….
I’ll neither confirm nor deny that I ‘might’ be in that category cuz nunya 😉

    • Yeah. I was looking for a particular hand piece the other day and couldn’t find it. I have no idea where I put it. It’s around here somewhere. I’m still looking, a week later. Grrrrr

  3. my wife asked once why so many guns, I said the same reason she has so many shoes, tupperware, clothes, makeup, nail polish, etc. She was not amused. Even less so when I asked rhetorically why women use makeup and perfume. Answer: Because they’re ugly and they stink.

Slept on the couch that night.

    • I tried that argument and my wife said she uses everything she buys, but that I only carry one or two and the rest just set in the safe. Feeling defeated, I came up with a new response and now I just say “Because I can!”. She did finally let me buy some Gen 3+ WP NV, so I am a happy camper right now.

  4. And in regards to ammo-
The only time you can have too much, is of you’re swimming or on fire.

    • …or the floor caves in. (yes, i am counting concrete floors too)

    • Tom – IF you can still swim you are likely a ‘little’ short. The true test is when you are in water over your head ;-(

  5. As I read this, my son is playing Rainbow Six….so many nice “unobtainable” guns in that video game.

  6. The questions to ask are, should the need arise:
Do you have enough to provide yourself with a long arm (rifle or shotgun) and side arm?
Do you have enough to provide same to every trustworthy adult in your household/family?
Do you have enough to provide same to every trustworthy adult in your immediate neighborhood?
Continue as trust and budget allows…

    • Dan:
I would imagine many of those in the neighbourhood you would consider trusting already have their own –
Or else, why would you consider them trustworthy!

      Live long and prosper…

      • Yes, I would much prefer that people BYOG(ear). But there may arise situations where neighbor helps neighbor to help defend each other. Someone may have been looted or trustworthy guy vouches for someone with experience but is caught away from gear. You never know when that extra rifle might be put to good use.

  7. No comments about where are the arrows pointing to “the precious” ? Geez, you all are slacking!!!

  8. “do you have enough guns?”

” Can I outfit every adult in my house, as well as every adult child/grandchild who might seek refuge at my home with a major power factor handgun as well as a reliable military caliber long arm? If yes, maybe I do. If no, then, no.”

  9. How many? I can’t say. Not that it’s a secret, I just have trouble counting that high.

  10. FYI – Walmart had zero ammo on the shelves yesterday. Not sure if this is a stocking issue like TP or they are deliberately restricting the masses access to high speed wireless projectiles.

    • Wallyworld announced no longer display or carry ammo(site specific), did you ask?

  11. Eat your heart out guys. My wife likes guns and knifes even more than I do. She has more guns than shoes and she has a whole closet devoted to shoes. Case in point, while back she went out to get groceries, came back with a new 12ga, a MK IV and an AR15. Gun store was closing and she loves a sale.

  12. Dear Commander, I know a little bit about Walmart stocking ammo. As all are aware they sell no pistol, AR or AK type. They do have most rifle. 3006, 308 etc. as well as 22s. At this time all ammo stock is in the back. No Ammo or firearms on desplay. However if you can find a clerk that has a key and will be able to help you. They can go into the back and retrieve it for you. I did not try a firearm but I did get two 25 round boxes of 12 gage. I thanked the clerk very kindly, paid for my purchase and went on my merry way. It does not help to be rude to the workers. They usually have little knowledge of what they are doing. I do not work or have any ties to Walmart. Good Luck on Finding Ammo.

    • I was at Academy a couple of days ago and they had plenty of 7.62 and 5.56. The 5.56 was 55g Federal and was going for about .35 cents a round. So, not too bad since a lot of online 5.56 is running in the forty cents range right now and have shipping on top.

  13. CZ,get better.
The flow chart did not list appropriate mags ,ammo or gear. A gun without loaded mags ,sling and minimal cleaning gear should be a affront to Krom. Not to mention sighted in with bz/range card

    • It also didn’t mention up to date prescription eyewear for those who need it. How many generations back do you want to go on that sort of list?

  14. Welcome back! Got to use some of my stored ammo today, shot the AR pistol with the Romeo 5 sight, two 45 Colt revolvers, my friend’s 45 Colt Win lever action and did some drills with our 9mm Glocks. Good Day!

  15. Guns guns and more guns, the answer is a very personal choice. For My family it’s lots, on the order of several per person with tons of spare parts, springs. Ammo is stockpiled in a bunker like setting, easily inventoried and rotated, oldest shot first. Stored dry and within a relatively narrow range of temps ammo will last imulti Decades. I have persanly witnessed those facts iin the military complex and at home. Same goes for weapons, treated properly many generations.

  16. Bottom line is – If you even have to ask yourself if you have enough guns – the answer is “NO” – (course the only, and only acceptable answer is always “NO”)….. nor enough ammo….. If you have enough ammo of any caliber you own that will squash the suspension of a one ton dually truck to the ground…….. You still don’t have enough…… Just sayin…
