Signs of the time

Whats missing from this picture of the CostCo meat counter?

Answer: Prices.

Usually there’s a couple big signs on the wall listing the regular and case prices. Those signs, clearly, are now absent. Reason? I’m guessing it’s because prices (and availability) are uncertain. Now, remember, this is just my opinion…I didn’t actually ask anyone there. For all I know they pulled the signs down so they could paint the walls or something. But…given the Current Situation, I suspect its a matter of pricing and availability.

Just one of those little things I’m sure not many other people at CostCo noticed, but little things like that kinda jump out at me.

  1. I observed the same thing here in central Mississippi.

When the so called “shortage” of beef products appeared at my local Kroger, they put up signs on stands inside the meat case advertising $18+/ lb. for ground beef and worse for other cuts. I think their strategy backfired and sales dropped off so the signs came down. Now just like before, they only price each package. Unsuspecting shoppers get a little suprise when they go to check out. Kinda falls in line with “know your surroundings”. In other words always pay attention to what’s happening around you.

It has been said before, “the easiest way to control the masses is to control the food supply”.

Hang in there C.Z., I suspect you’re meat trays will return to normal…..
    once the election is over.

  2. Hmmm – one of the reasons why we’re buying our pork and beef from local (small) farms and having it butchered locally – and that’s not mentioning the venison in the freezer…

  3. I ordered a whole cow. Grass fed/finished. Will get about 600 lbs of meat, along with bones and organs.
