To sleep, perchance to profit

So although I have what actually could be construed as ‘enough’ magazines for my forseeable use, I want to be in a position to take advantage of any future ban by having extras for sale/trade*. Problem is, I’m not the only one with that idea. As a result, when my primary vendor gets stuff in stock, it moves fast. And then, I discovered something……..

It appears that, on weekdays, my vendor updates their website at several points throughout the day. As those updates hit the website, people pounce and inventory drops to zero in minutes. But…not at 3:30am. It appears that they do inventory updates in the wee hours of the morning. As a result, I’ve taken to sleeping with my phone laying on the bed next to me, with the browser opened to the product page I want, and I wake up a couple times in the middle of the night, refresh the page, and…surprise….the items I want are in stock. And then I scoop it all up for little ol’ me. What is it I’m looking for? Well, I’ve covered myself with about 500 Glock Pmags but I want more AR Pmags and AR10 Pmags.

Drawback is that I’m not exactly getting a solid nights worth of sleep, but on the bright side I’m getting a monstrous stockpile of magazines.

*= “But..but..what if they make the magazines illegal or regulated? Then you won’t be able to sell them?” Of course I’ll be able to sell them, I just won’t be able to sell them legally.

  1. I was just looking at Glock Pmags as well. Admittedly I do not want to corner the market, but they are available on Magpul’s website at the same price they have been since my last order 2 years ago. It appears people are not panic buying yet, or they are spending all their funds trying to load the mags they already have.

    • More likely that Magpul is in a position to produce them rapidly, or have a stockpile built up, and thus can keep up with demand.

      • Ad I suspect they aren’t trying to price gouge – unlike say less expensive than sand…………….

  2. I spent part of the afternoon sifting through several sites for ammo and mags. Two sites in a row would have ammo listed at the current price and then the page would also show the amount in stock to be zero. Same with mags.
One outfit had a nice buy in a Phoenix 22LR pistol. The price was actually not bad. The number in stock was zero. Seems to be the current state.
Fiocci has an ammo plant under construction in Arkansas. Don’t know when they might be online with that.
The Firearms News has no once fired brass in any caliber or gauge advertised.

  3. I had heartburn one of my business trip nights, right after the Empire Arms guy had sent out Email to people that he had a specific gun I’ve been looking for a while. Score one for the old man bladder!

Supposedly, it’s healthy to sleep in interrupted periods as long as you’re still getting 7-8 hours of total sleep. I find if I get up once or twice, I can’t tell I was up at all, and the day is good. If I get up 4 or more times, then I feel like I was up all night and the next day is a bit of a waste.

I go to work and right after supper, take a nap between an hour or two. It isn’t bad, though I find on Saturday, I get a full 8 – 9 hours and feel great.

  4. Have you had a time in the past when you sold a shit ton of your stuff just because the price was so high?

What’s the criteria for you to sell a significant amount?

    Thanks

    • The criteria is that I have to make a profit. I don’t sell anything that wasnt bought with the express intent of being sold later at a profit.

      • Yup. During the first AWB, I had a stockpile of used Glock mags. (Had just done a trade with OSP).
I paid 15 bucks apiece and sold them for 85 on an open bid website.
        Might just happen again…

  5. Ha Ha. If the government gets to the point of banning magazines and black rifles, we will be WAY beyond paying any attention to their unconstitutional and illegal “laws”.

  6. “But..but..what if they make the magazines illegal or regulated? Then you won’t be able to sell them?”

Then they’ll be worth even more…

  7. Something I learned from doing shift work for three and a half decades, sleep is highly overrated. 🙂

    • Try working seven days a week plus extra hours beyond that. Then at the same time going to college. Sleep when I did get it was a precious thing. But now I’m retired and making up for it. I figure 8 hours a night plus a couple of naps should equal things out.
