Availability

Much to my surprise, I’m starting to see availability of guns and ammo pick up, although the prices are still in Ludicrous Mode. Most notaly, one of my vendors had my favorite AR, the Ruger MPR, in stock. Madness!

But, it’s not all sunshine and stun grenades… most dealers shelves are devoid of any common-caliber stuff. 9mm might as well be made out of gold jackets and platinum cases.

But…it looks like either production is ramping up, demand is damping down, or (probably) both.

Which, naturally, means we are due for a ‘mass shooting’ or other catalyst event annnnnnny second now.

I never have ‘enough’ ammo, but I seem to usually have ‘enough for now’. However, if I ever come across a deal like the last one, I will literally take an entire pallet.

  1. Too much ammo is a problem when one is swimming or on fire.

Supply seems to be coming back but prices aren’t coming down, yet. Would like to lay in a bunch of primers when they are back on the shelves also. The ones I have stored in ammo cans (with dessicant) seem to shoot just fine but I don’t really want to break out the stock unless I have to, and with all the ammo in the bunker room, I don’t.

    • talked to a local vendor the other day, he looks for inventory to increase slowly, but not for the prices to change much ( if any ). I’ve had the same thoughts.

  2. I hear about people who buy bullets by the pallet or the 100k. My googe-fu is failing me, so I hope you don’t mind asking. Does anyone have any insights on how to do a book buy?

    • Try ammoseek.com, while they don’t ALWAYS have the absolute best price, you can set up email alerts so when someone has a flash sale you know about it. And the alerts only occur when a price you have selected comes up. while it ain’t 5.56, I just got 1200 rounds of .22 CCI tactical for $200 so 0.16 cents /round with shipping. Better deal than I have seen in a while. most 5.56 is running 0.56/round or more there right now.

    • When I figure out a bulk buy, I’m going to comment on your blog for interested parties how I did it. Unless you don’t publish it, cause it’s your place and all.

  3. I was at my local Gun & Pawn store yesterday. Last month their used section was empty. Today it’s full again. People are bring back the guns they bought during the panic to sell. And yes ammo is out there again, still a bit pricey.

    • “…..People are bring back the guns they bought during the panic….”

Good! I hope they all bought Ruger PC carbines, CZ P10-Cs, and P365s!
      I *love* used guns!

  4. Yep, visited a local Academy and found 50 round .22lr selling for $10. The only sort of reasonable priced ammo was 350 Legend and 450 Bushmaster a bit over a $2 a round. 45/70 Govt for $44 a box of 20 seemed to be the better buy..

  5. A data point that indicates ammo is getting better. This morning the Fenix website had ammo available 35 minutes after the 8 AM release time. In the past, it has been gone in 5 minutes or less.

  6. mostly seeing foreign brands, russian, italian, phillipine etc. little bit of blaster grade us brand name but not a lot. …..the way tptb are stoking the 3 year old “stolen military weapons used in crimes, omg”, look for one involving dot mil guns. they’re shipping out as many national guardsmen as they can and will likely use said event to lock down dot mil on post so they can do their deed. whatever they’re planning must be very big and they expect huge pushback. i’m betting new lockdowns for the hay fever delta variant followed by executive order to pick up the ar15’s. yes, they ARE that utterly stupid. happy independence day.

  7. I under stand the Rem. ammo plant went back on line a week or two ago they to my understanding can manufacture very large quantities of ammunition. That may be helping a bit with ammo turning up on shelves here and there. Having them off line for the last year or so sure would have put a hole on the supply.

    • But they are still victims of the supply chain. Unless they literally control the supply chain from the lead mines all the way to the smelting and refining, theyre going to be subject to the same bottlenecks on components necessary to make ammo. They may make their own cases, but I doubt they make their own brass stock.

  8. Local Wally World still empty of ammo. Local farms and goods store got a decent supply which is slowly disappearing. But they had ammo recently that I haven’t seen on shelves in more than a year. Still, 9mm— fagetaboutit. No dice.

  9. This AM got a sale notice from Classic Firearms. Several decent Ads available for under 500. Another from them in Friday had decent deals on 9mm brass case reloadable American made. 1500 rds for $699.99. About what a case of 1000 was selling for a month ago.
