Bass stacatto

Remember these guys? It was a larger budget unofficial sequel to Robert Rodriguez’ “El Mariachi”. Note the Hollywood-style guitar cases that have a somewhat starring role in this scene.

I mention it because in addition to snapping up every $200 Ruger P95DC (or P89DC, actually), I also snag every $300 3rd Gen 9mm Glock I can find on Gunbroker. Very rarely do I make that score. But sometimes someone will miscategorize, mislabel, or misidentify their listing and it doesnt get the traffic it normally would. As a result, I can sometimes score. And, in a lightning-strikes-twice fashion, I actually did score a pair of Glocks for a tad over $300 each with shipping.

G17 and a New York reload.

So, it’s not like I need a reason to pick up extra Glocks at discount prices. But in this case, I did have a reason. Specifically, because for Christmas I received this:

And, of course, nothing is as it seems. I don’t play any musical instruments. (Well, not true…I’ve been known to play the Fallopian tuba.) But, crack this baby open and:

Not gonna like. Once in a while, the ‘James Bond’ parts of being a survivalist can be pretty cool.

A Ruger PC9 carbine, a G26, a G17, and enough magazines to make for a busy day in Katrinaville.

I needed the two ‘new’ Glocks to fill up the two empty spots in the case. (By the way, the tea-ball looking doohickey behind the buttstock is, in fact, basically a tea-ball. You fill it with dessicant.)

What’s a case like this useful for? Good question. When I transport or store guns, I use a Pelican or Hardigg case. But, a Pelican or Hardigg case looks exactly like a gun case. You can walk down the street with a Pelican 1760 and not have people be unaware of whats probably in it. This package, in theory, gives you a little ‘grey man’ for when you need to move some hardware around discreetly….and I can see situations where that has some value.

By the by, that MagPul Backpacker stock for the Ruger is a huge recommend.

  1. That case wants a cut-out for the Glock 50 rd drum mag.
    Srsly. 😉

I frequently suggested to retail clients that lived in sketchy digs to tote their shooting irons into their domicile inside purpose-foam-blocked acoustic guitar or cello cases.
Anybody will do a B&E to snag a shotgun when you’re not at home, but few criminals want a guitar.

  2. Dear Commander,
the bass and guitar cases idea is great from an OPSEC or Gray Man perspective, especially if you live in a challenging enviroment.

For example, here in Italy gun owners are very rare compared to the US, and I’m the only person in my circle of family and friends to have a firearm license. This makes all the more imperative to be discreet in what you do unless you want to be labeled a “crazy survivalist”….

So far I’ve managed to prevent my neighbors from knowing that I own guns, and I’ve gone so far in my OPSEC efforts as to buy a guitar case where I put my rifles during the short walk from my front door to the garage when I go to the range. Now, the only problem would come if a chatty neighbor asked me to play him a song…! 😀 Thanks, Daniele

  3. Commander:
I know this is off-topic, but have you read about the latest California shootings?
The snowflakes and the press are going quietly nuts trying to find a way to blame White Supremacists for them….

    Ceejay

  4. Shoutout to the Triple Ought reference!
That takes me back a few years to when it was shareware.

  5. They have same case for the shockwave shotgun. I have both. You can combine both.platforms in one case due by swapping one layer out.

  6. I picked up a soft guitar “gig bag” case at a flea market for less than $20. I can carry a full-size AR-15 with optic and magazine, as well as 5 spare magazines in the outside pockets. Completely incognito, and inconspicuous.

  7. Needs a nice knife [Pocket knife would be fine], maybe an ASP baton for less than lethal use and some kind of fire lighter for the simple reason of why not. Use the gaps under the stock and no cutting needed.

  8. in the Ruger P series, the P90 DC/ .45 ACP is the best bang for the buck, pun intended!

  9. I can see some of the regressive states banning the tranportation of firearms in a manner that disguises or conceals them. They will call it the “Truth in Transporting Law” lol.

    • They seem to be the pinnacle or the product. 2nd gen usually doesn’t have the pic rail, gen 4 has the stupid swappable backstraps, and my understanding is that the extractors on the 4/5 gen had some issues. Whats interesting is that the Gen3 is still made by Glock because its the preferred version of many departments.

      • It’s also the only Gen approved by the California DOJ Certified Handgun list..no Gen 4 or 5’s approved. Part of why I moved…I’ll have to keep my eye out for Gen 3’s now.
