BBQ/Hero Gun – Part II

Well, what have we here….Ah, thats right…its the decorative gunleather I had made for the equally decorative BBQ gun. Well, let’s open the box and see what an embarrassingly large amount of money gets you:

Not gonna lie, I opened the box, pulled away the packing papers, and literally exclaimed “Wow!”. It’s a nice bit of work, I gotta say.

Only needs two things now: custom grips, and an occasion where I can wear this thing.

  1. Yes. Super dark stained wood grips, or bone, tusk, whatever type of panels employed so as to compliment the color tone of the holster, and speedy loader leather. Please do not get gold or silver engraved type of cartel membership grips, or worse yet some tawdry pearl or Ivory colors that stand out offensively at polite people gatherings. Will there be a follow up with nice heavy leather matching belt with appropriate cowboy big buckle. Don’t think a black Nylon tacticool belt would be appropriate here. Also while we are dressing you out here, perhaps matching knife scabbard for that fixed blade one should always carry also. Commander level standards and all.

Stay kitted out so as to stay frosty.

  2. Somehow, the word WOW doesn’t capture the full meaning. That IS pretty, the holster surface is very detailed. Just don’t be crossing no barbed wire fences without taking precautions.

Which speed loaders fit those pouches ?

    • Most consumer-grade speedloaders are about the same size. I prefer Safariland, but the HKS will fit in there just fine. Some of the more razoo competition speedloaders will be too large.

  3. Might be fun to organize a BBQ Gun event in the area. Everybody pays their own way, no real party “host,” just a date and time to show up propogated on web, email etc. That way you could stay anon. Bonner Tap Room would be ideal but not sure if open carry is allowed in tap rooms. Maybe the fair grounds/food trucks? Anyway, what would I bring? Well, it’s lame, I guess, but either Wiley Clap Gp100 or some polished 696’s. Just can’t get enough of those.

  4. I don’t want to play the part of the pedantic security freak, but personally I would still prefer a holster that covers the trigger guard, even if the double action trigger pull of the GP100 (which I own and love) is heavy as hell.
Don’t want to have a meat skewer getting in the way of the trigger during one of those BBQs… 🙂
    Thanks from Italy,
    Daniele

    • With a properly made and fitted leather holster the cylinder shouldn’t be able to rotate. Or there should be such drag that yeah it’s theoretically possible but it would be a 200 lbs trigger pull.

    • Id love to get some genuine ivory grips but silly laws preclude me from getting genuine elephant ivory at anything other than stratospheric prices. Walrus or mammoth tusk might be an option.

      • Commander:
I don’t know if the laws are different in the States, but in Britain one way round these restrictive laws is to buy old, mismatched; snooker or pool balls (which used to be made of Ivory) and use the raw material for modern purposes. The same holds true for using old Rare Wood table parts for grips and the like. Hope this helps.

  5. As George H. W. might say, “Not gonna lie…”

That holster is art, but I’d prefer that it held a nice 9 mm semi-auto.

How many times have we heard about shootouts at barbecues and birthday parties in places like Chicago and Philly? Ten, even a dozen people have been shot within seconds. Oh…wait…you don’t live in Chicago or Philly and I somewhat doubt that you go to those types of barbecues.

    Never mind.

  6. I don’t normally comment on blogs, but those are beautiful. Whatever they cost, they were worth it. A guy doesn’t often get a chance to get something so nice. Enjoy, and wear them in good health.

  7. That is amazing. Does away with the “a gun is just a tool” school of thought. A rodeo might be an appropriate place to wear but, maybe anywhere you can. I’m guessing you don’t have to buy for a wife/partner/significant other though.

  8. Those are very chic in a gun world way. I always carry IIWB but a rig like that would go nicely with my Ruger Vaquero .45 Colt or 1858 Remington conversion revolver in same . Cool.

  9. Nice BBQ rig, Congrats!
You need a matching belt, keep the hardware silver. The grips should be a dark, highly figured wood or Staghorn.
