Stopped by one of the solar power companies here in Missoula this afternoon. I explained to them that I need a setup for an off-grid location and specified my needs. It would be running Starlink, some lighting, cameras, recharging small devices, and at a later date possibly a well pump and recharge an electric dirtbike. My concerns are reliability, survivability, durability, and modularity. There is a high likelihood of initial vacancy during winter, meaning no heat will be at the property so batteries will be in a sheltered but unheated environment. System needs to be adaptable to future expansion without srapping whatever is already in place.
Be interesting to see what they come up with.
it will be very expensive compared to the component cost of finding the parts yourself.
Solar industry is practically a scam industry after the rebates that have been available for many years. I have had friends have companies put in systems that I could have built for 25 to 35 cents on the dollar even after calculating a decent labor expense in the job. Fried payed 80 grand for a full grid connected setup that could also go off grid and it was only 15KW, lead acid batteries etc.. I warned him ahead of time but they did a good job of selling him up front. He’s pissed as hell now as he has had to put another 20 grand into it to get it working correctly 5 or 6 years later. lot of stuff died or didn’t work right in the first place. Lucky for him he has a lot of money and could afford that kind of expense out of pocket but damn.. that sucks to overpay and underperform that badly.
