Personal touches

Him: GLock 21 w/ 4 magazines
Me: Price?
Him: [price]
Me: I’ll take it
Me: Curse you

And that’s when I realized I got so caught up in New Gun Fever I failed to ask some basic questions.. like what Gen Glock? Factory mags? Box-n-docs? Condition?

Now, since I already said I’d take it, I couldn’t then start asking those questions and expecting him to be okay with me changing my price. So..I hoped for the best.

Didn’t do too bad.

First disappointment was that it was a Gen 2… no lightrail. But…hmm..someone put aftermarket fiber optic night sights on there (yes, self luminous). Ok, thats kinda nice. Take it apart and…hmm..a Nowlin replacement recoil assembly. And the magazines all have +2 extensions on them. Hmmm. So what we have here are the signs of someone who took good care of their guns. Let’s see how good…:::peel back the foam from the inside of the gun case::: sure enough, under the foam is the original factory recoil assembly, the receipts from Brownells, and some other useful info. Not too shabby.

I’m not a .45 guy. I have a very nice, very tweaked 1911 and have never felt the need for more than that. And these big frame Glocks never fit my hand. But…this is a nice gun. I’m tempted to keep it, especially since it’ll go nicely with the little G30 I still have sitting here.

But..I’ve no interest in retooling my logistics table. First nice Gen 3 17,17L,19, or 34 that someone wants to trade will wind up taking this thing home.

  1. What a nice purchase, the extra mags are a nice touch. I wouldn’t get all hung up on not having a light rail, personally I think light rails are a little overrated. As for the .45 vs the 9MM, I see we have a different opinion and I’ll leave it at that. I hope you manage to get a taker for the trade.

  2. I prefer the 45 Glocks personally; the 9 mm Glocks don’t fit my hand well. I have other 9 mms, such as Hi Power and a Taurus 92 that do fit me well.

  3. I briefly had one of those.
But having shot a 21 long enough ago that the “low capacity 10 shot mags” were standard, I ended up trading it off.
My paws aren’t gorilla sized, so the regular 21 frames are just a hair too big for me.
It wasn’t uncomfortable to fire though, but at that time “my pistol” (as in…the one…) was a Colt 1991.
And at that time, the extra 2 shots a Glock had didn’t make me want to jump platforms, since I already had a couple (as in, 2…) 10 shot magazines.

    I’ll stick with 9mm.
    And .357 Magnum.
    And .38 Special.
    And .22LR…
    And the Glocks…
    Got Gen 2 and 3…
    Standardized, I am not.
At least they are all 9mm though.

  4. Sounds like a nice deal.

    I’d ditch the +2s, though.

I used to use them, then one day after making an arrest I re-holstered my Glock 21 and the +2 popped off. Spring, follower, lockplate, and rounds went flying everywhere. Had to pry the shell out and pop in a spare (no +2s on my spares as they didn’t fit in the pouches at the time).

Even the suspect that we had just hooked was laughing at me.
