Sticker shock

It’s bad enough that at CostCo, cheapest gas in town, I was still forking out almost $4.70 per gallon (I’d happily put up with mean tweets for $2 gas), but then I decided to ease my agitated soul with some fast food. Nothing fancy, mind you…a double cheeseburger, fries, and a Coke. Nothing fancy. That’ll e $10.69 please. Are you kidding me? You could cover that meal combo with hookers and cocaine and it wouldn’t be worth ten bucks.

I feel sorry for the people on fixed incomes. It’s going to be some severe belt tightening and, for some, a major life change as mortgages that were previously affordable become less so as prices of everything else go up and start eating into the budget.

Fortunately, I’ve been somewhat ready for this for a while. I keep expenses low, multiple revenue streams, and no debt. Paying ten bucks for a cheeseburger still annoys me greatly, but at least I can still afford to do it. In fact, I still have enough margin that I can pick up some gold and silver, which I did this week. I told my metals guy that if he gets in any gold that he wants to sell at spot, let me know. Why would  he do that? Sometimes stuff comes in that is unattractive to a potential buyer…a $5 gold coin that someone drilled a hole in, an oddball weight of gold, a bent-in-half 1/10th, whatever. He buys it below spot and I’ll pay him spot for it. Why not? A tenth ounce of gold is still a tenth ounce of gold even if it is bent, tarnished, or whatever…as long as it’s really gold and weighs what it’s supposed to, I don’t care.

And in other news, while manhandling a box of bullets that weighted 70 pounds, I managed to crack a rib. Ow. Actually heard it go when it happened. So…moving a little slow this week.

And finally, Dopey Joe is stirring up the winds of ban in regards to gun control, which has now rebranded itself as ‘gun safety’. I bought another case of Pmags two weeks ago an was on the fence about whether it was a good idea. Now I feel better about it. Maybe a ban is coming, maybe not. But even if not, I’m still going to be ahead in terms of inflation.

It’s getting to be an even weirder world out there, kids. Let’s be careful out there.

    • The powers that be won’t let that happen. All this bs is being orchestrated so they can declare an emergency and suspend elections.

      • This gets said every election by both sides. Are you old enough to remember less than 2 years ago when Trump wasn’t going to leave office? He was definitely going to invoke some vague war powers act? Yeah, so stop saying this ridiculous stuff.

  1. CZ, how on Earth did you crack a rib even with a 70 lb box? From pictures in the distant past plus comments here and there, you aren’t a scrawny dude.

I’ve dislocated a rib before so understand what you’re dealing with.

    Steelheart

    • Ok, this is a bit tough to imagine. I had a 70# box stting in the passenger footwell of the truck. I was sitting in the drivers seat. I figured I’d lean over and pick up the box. So, from my seat, I leaned over the armest console, grabbed the box and yanked upwards. My physics modelling software must have been offline, because what naturally happened was that, because the box was so heavy and the angle so awkward, that rather than the box snatching upwards I instead basically pulled myself downward. The corner of the console was poking me in the chest when I leaned over and the sudden downward movement of my torso….crack.

      • I did essentially the same thing trying to clear the jam on an M60, instead of having the butt stock flush along my chest when I yanked with all my might, just the corner of the stock was positioned over a single rib. No injury is more humiliating than a self inflicted one.

  2. Cracked rib is a painful sob and a slow heal just take it a little slower and if your going to do some work that requires lifting Tape yourself up . It helps some

  3. Your a very talented fellow to crack a rib that way. That sounds like something that I would have pulled when I was a bit younger. Can’t do what you did now because I can’t even pick up 70 lbs anymore from any position. Old age sucks!

  4. Even though the party of Marx and Lennon should be kicked right in the teeth in the midterms coming up don’t get on it. The left is getting ready for ” The Big Steal Part Duo”. They are already at it here in Michigan getting three of our top candidates eliminated months before even casting a vote. They have tried this against other candidates in South Carolina, Georgia, New York and name any state run by the crumbs that put a fossil in the White House with a purported 81 million votes.
With the release of more and more irrefutable proof of election fraud on a national scale and guilty pleas being entered by those guilty of running ballot fraud and ballot harvesting operations the left is going ahead with the blueprint that gave them the White House, Executive branch and both Houses if Congress.
From my reading and compilation of evidence. Not only did the Demonrats steal the Presidency. They also cost the Republicans at least 8 Senate seats and as many as forty House Seats. Which would have held both Houses for the Republicans.
With China having so many of the leftist and a few Dead Elephants in their employee we the people don’t even register in the minds of the elected elites.
The Vegetable doesn’t have to miss a meal. He doesn’t worry about filling his car or his huge plane. He is on vacation more then ant President in his story. The rest of the time this idiot is out to lunch.
We have option that can gun is much of what the Progressives have done to screw this country up. But we need 34 states to pass a resolution calling for a Convention of the States. Article Five of the Constitution allows this. Nothing scary about it and there will not be a runaway Convention. I’ve heard all the crap and the lies. We have 19 States that have responded. We have several in process. Remember it takes 75% or 37 states to ratify an amendment.
We seek term limits for Congress. Repeal of the 17th Amendment and possibly the 16th amendment.
To get a better idea if what the COS project is about you can read Mark R Kevin’s book the Liberty Amendments and/ or go to Convention of the States.org.
We have to use what we have before it’s too late.

  5. Wonder when American people will push back at near $11 simple burger lunch ? Inflation is reported to significantly increase in summer .
    =(

    • Redbull- economical lunch on the road is hot dogs wrapped in foil, placed on engine intake manifold for one half hour. then stop, place on rolls and enjoy with toppings!

      • A man with skills and sense. Rare breed. We used to concoct engine block cuisine when on boy scout trips and hunting excursions with my father. Good memories and always tasty.

  6. I discovered the same thing you did a few weeks back. I went to Chipotle and got a plain old burrito, no extra guac or a drink and it was over $10. I also just paid $14 yesterday for the previously less than $10 a 12-pack thing of canned dog food.

  7. Yes, things are getting more expensive – I’ve always paid close attention to the price of big-ticket items (house, car, etc.) and items like guns and ammo, but now it’s time to pay more attention when buying the stuff we never paid much attention to – the regular stuff that we need but now notice it’s getting more expensive – increase in meat prices, gasoline, etc. BUT, as always, cash is king – I remember my Mom getting CDs for the grandkids during the Carter years – with San Jacinto Bank and Trust paying well over 17% on a CD, LOL, until they went out of business and FDIC insured that we got our money back. There are also gonna be lots of homes and cars for sale when people can no longer afford them, and they’re desperate to get out from under the loan – and they’ll be willing to give up a lot of equity for me to buy their home and get the note off their back. Am I a predatory SOB ? Maybe so, but someone’s inability to manage their affairs isn’t my problem.

    • “……gonna be lots of homes and cars for sale……”

Hopefully some nice older, big diesel pickups, as the price goes over $8/gallon. It won’t be a daily-driver, but very nice to have when you need it.
