The winds of ban

I normally keep a years worth of property taxes in the bank. Rather than pay every six months, I’d rather pay all at once and get it out of the way. As a result, the property tax fund usually has a several thousand dollars in it at any given moment. Put half of it into gold today. We shall see in November if that was a good move or not.

I know I’ve been beating the drums about gun bans ever since I started this blog, and when the Assault Weapons Ban expired in ’04 I warned anyone who would listen that this was the opportunity to stock up because it will return. I was pretty confident it would return under Obama, but I was wrong. Gotta say, though, the way it’s getting flogged in the media these days make me think that this time it might have legs.

I remember what the last ban looked like. For those of you who don’t recall, let me refresh your memory:

Crazy times, those were. And thats just the magazines. “Pre-ban” guns like telestock AR’s and folder AK’s were bringing stupid money. A lot of people, after the ban ended, never really took the lesson to heart that this sort of thing wasn’t a one-off….it could happen again, and this time without the sunset clause. Thats why every since 2004 I’ve been steadily stockpiling. I hope you did the same.

Will we get ‘gun safety’ legislation? Who knows? What I do know is that I can’t afford the risk of thinking nothing will happen and then getting caught short when it does.

  1. Just think back then you could get primers, brass, bullets, powder and parts-now good luck if you don’t already have them. The good news is the 0% ghost gunner cnc mill makes any ban moot, are they going to try to outlaw aluminum? Is it strange that the precipitating evens mainly occur under certain political leadership?

    • The ghost gunner only makes the receiver or frame. You still have to buy manufactured slides, barrels, etc. Those parts are currently uncontrolled which is the only reason ghost gunners make sense. In Europe, for example, where pressure-bearing parts like slides or barrels are the controlled part, a ghost gunner would offer no advantage. Its not unlikely that our government would classify certain gun parts in such a way to make them regulated. ATF already did this with importing barrels in parts kits for military guns.

      • I do confirm that. Here in Italy barrels and slides have their own serial numbers and must be registed upon purchase with the police as “gun parts”. A few years ago they tried to regulate even stocks as “gun parts” but backed down after public backlash as it was absurd trying to outlaw a simple piece of wood or plastic…
Meanwhile, a couple of years ago they lifted the ban on “high capacity” magazines (more than 15 on handguns and 10 on long guns) and I was able to stock up in Glock Pmags with 17 and 27 rounds (no 33rd here) and Ar-15 30rd Pmags. You literally would never know when they will decide to reverse that decision…
        Thanks, Daniele

      • A quality barrel is difficult but if already invested in a cnc mill the rest of the parts are not too difficult with some heat treatment. The complete unit would be available to a motivated individual with a rock, remember what the Taliban accomplished a few short months ago.

      • It would take much more than an Executive Order to reclassify ‘firearms’ to include parts other than receivers. This was the Brady cabal’s plan back in 1994 — ‘firearms’ would be considered to include even screws, springs, etc, as part of their Brady II scheme —and was a big part of why the Democrats got stomped in the ’94 elections.

ATF got away with it in the case of machine gun barrels — or actually, the State Department and Department of Commerce got away with it — due to the ITAR regulations that gave them authority over a list of ‘implements of war’ parts, which by statute included barrels. Just one of the reasons that the ‘sporting purposes’ nonsense needs to be hacked out of gun laws with a meat ax.

  2. I remember those pictured pistol magazine ads too. Even paid $60 for a Glock 21 13 round magazine while the new 10 round was $21. $39 for 3 extra rounds – such a bargain !

Politicians aren’t getting it, but (hopefully), the public sees that it wasn’t the firearm used, it was waiting 40 minutes to go inside and confront the shooter that significantly raised the body counts of innocent. The takeaway – the only person responsible for their safety is themselves. You cannot count on the LEO to risk their life to save you.

    • 77 minutes, more than the “golden hour” of trauma care. The cops are much more concerned about going home alive than protecting kids(second is pension).

      • You never KNOW what you will do until it is staring you in the face. Then we all find out.

Our department policy on a school active shooter was to take the first armed individual that showed up (yes, including a ccw holder if he was willing) and go kill the sob(s). Our SWAT team commander made it crystal clear that if we showed up and were the only officer there, we would go immediately alone. Preferably, tell someone what you are doing so the follow on troops are informed, but Go Now and Kill the SOB.
As i said in the first line, a man never Really knows until it happens, but i intended to go immediately if i ever found myself in that scene. I believe that everyone single one of the 6 other members of our small dept’s SWAT team felt the same way.
Fuck with kids, I’ll kill you. And if the admins/lawyers want to cry, they can do so while the public defends my actions.

fwiw, i am retired now but still good enough to Go if i need to.

  3. We are all outlaws under any administration, republitards included, where gommermints sole intent is control of the populace. Control includes freedom of speech and any of the original Bill of Rights, the 1st 10 Amendments. Individual states are buying into this program by their endorsement of the “Convention of States”. Those sent to the convention will have ZERO controls on what they come up with regardless of what anyone tells you. Thats exactly how we ended up with out present Constitution. Should it be allowed to progress to 2/3rds of the states voting to pursue it, what they come up with as a “new Constitution” will not be recognizable, and you can bet your ass, you will not be allowed free speech, or any of the present freedoms our present Bill of Rights guarantees, with out first having gommermint approval. In other words, your every move, action, even thought process, will be dictated. That is their ultimate goal, and it coincides and fits like a hot dog in a bun alongside the WEF globalist agenda.

    • “We are all outlaws under any administration, republitards included, where gommermints sole intent is control of the populace. ”

“There’s no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren’t enough criminals one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws. Who wants a nation of law-abiding citizens? What’s there in that for anyone? But just pass the kind of laws that can neither be observed nor enforced or objectively interpreted – and you create a nation of law-breakers – and then you cash in on guilt.” – Atlas Shrugged

    • “Control includes freedom of speech and any of the original Bill of Rights, the 1st 10 Amendments.”

Can you cite examples of current violations of the 3rd amendment? I don’t hear too many stories of people being forced to allow soldiers to stay in their homes.

      • Interestingly, there was a case recently where a family sued under 3A when police (cant recall if local or federal) entered the families home against their wishes so they could blow a hole in the wall to get into the building next door where the bad guys were at.

      • Part of the spirit of not having to quarter soldiers was not having gov agents listening in on your business or eating you out of house and home. So, no, we don’t have to quarter soldiers, but we do have our livelihoods impacted having to pay for them and we do have the gov intruding into our domestic privacy.

      • Apparently, one of their cute tricks is to demand space in your house so they can monitor someone else in your neighborhood. There was a lawsuit, using the 3rd a few years ago, about that.

  4. Picked up some 40 round magpul AR Mags, might as well buy some actual higher capacity magazines while I still can.

    • Yeah, I know the feeling. I just picked up a hundred Magpul Glock 27-rd mags.

    • I for one really like the Surefire 60 round magazines.

      I also bought a 50 round Magpul 308 AR10/SR25 magazine.

  5. the current crop of grabbers doesn’t grandfather anything. what are you going to do when mere possession is a crime?

    • Every single individual must determine where their “line in the sand” is.

At some point we must make a stand and say, “NO!”

      • roger that. i withdrew my consent to be governed after the two-weeks-to-kill-covid. my then-govna told me i couldn’t sell my own property without going thru him, and went on to tell state troopers not to pull over black motorists any more.

  6. Have an AR upper I was going to sell, w a front sight tower, possibly something wrong w the gas system. Also a good rear flip up sight. Now thinking I might tuck those away. I should keep a closer eye on Magpul mag prices, too.
