So that happened:

A set of recovery boards for Next Time. Not shown is the bracket set that arrived yesterday as well to allow me to mount the HiLift jack to roll bars on the cage of the SxS. On the way are the shovel bracket and a saw. Still to be purchased is a 12v portable hitch-mounted winch for the ass-end of the SxS.
One other things I’m working on for next trip is a preliminary stash of gear so that if something happens like last time, and I wind up having to stay put, I can do so in safety and security. There’ll be a post about that later.
Nothing modifies behavior (and empties the wallet) like having a Close Call and not wanting to repeat the experience.
And, yesterday I paid off the second third of the money I borrowed to help finance the Beta Site. Or, in other words, I’ve got $9649.63 to go, which I should have paid off either next month or the month after….which would be some thirty months ahead of schedule. Once thats done, the $1000/week that I’ve been throwing at the debt gets diverted into Beta Site Development, Equipage and Stockpiling Fund.
”Nothing modifies behavior (and empties the wallet) like having a Close Call and not wanting to repeat the experience.“ Sound advice. Adding it to my email tagline.
A small trailer will help keep the weight of your SxS down. You’re carrying a lot of weight. And allow you to carry more gear. Be ready to unhook it if you get in a bind. Just do it before you can’t.
Absolutely agree and endorse. I have a 54 Willys I go out with; obviously not a lot of space or weight capacity. But I put the M416 trailer on and suddenly I can take what I want, with the ability to park it and go off in just the jeep. If you can find a compatible model for your SxS, snag it. If not, look into modifying something for your set up.
My truck has a square hitch on the back AND front. The previous owner used the front hitch for getting his boat in and out of the water.
It is remarkably handy when you want to carry hitch mounted stuff but are already using the rear hitch. The best part is you can get section of square tubing, weld/bolt your electric hitch to it and then move your hitch to fron ot back as you need it.
Also, I have a really cool pioneer tool rack that mounts on the rear hitch. It is basically an L-shaped piece if 4 -inch square tube that is hinged at the right-angle. When locked, the post part is upright and carried Pioneer tools in a rack right behind the Tailgate. When I need to open the tailgate, the rack unlocks at the joint and folds down.

I have a small shop so space is at a premium. Mounted a receiver to the bench. Have various things mounted to ball mounts. Vise, grinder, sander etc. Sorry for the tangent.
Hope you got 4 recovery boards vs just 2
