Paratus 2019

Greetings fellow survivalists! A happy Paratus to you all (well, most of you anyway).

Thats right, gang…today is Paratus – the holiday for surivalists.

This year I decided to be a little extravagant and send Paratus cards to a few fellow preparedness bloggers and other people who have interacted with me over the year. How did the cards turn out? Rather slick, if I do say so myself. Some people got just cards, some people got cards and a small gift. If you didn’t get a card but would have liked to…well…interact with me more and perhaps next year you too can get one of these (not) highly-collectible Paratus cards.

So! The traditions of Paratus have a long and noble history datingback to the times of…uhm…ok, it’s actually a fairly recent holiday. BUT….you can read all about it at the world-famous Paratus FAQ. I won’t recap it here because thats what the FAQ is for.

I did receive Paratus greetings (and even a gift or two) from several people and I am grateful. I’ll give the mail another day or two to make sure anything that was sent has arrived and then, if i received a gift from someone to whom I did not send a card/gift…..then I have to discharge my Paratus obligation of making a self-deprecating statement about my lack of reciprocity. (Check the “How does the gift giving work for Paratus?” part of the FAQ for more details on how that works.)

Ihope you’ll take some time today to engage in the traditional Paratus activities…although some of you live your everyday lives in such a state of preparedness that pretty much everyday is Paratus. If thats the case, I salute you! But as for the rest of you… get out there and shoot today, hang out with your LMI buddies and talk about preparedness-stuff, go to WalMart and pick up a case of canning jars, eat some freeze-drieds, or go watch “Threads” or “Red Dawn” while cleaning your AR.

It’s your holiday…make a new Paratus tradition for your household or something equally interesting. But, regardless, have a happy and well-geared Paratus.

Oh..and if you’re curious what the Paratus cards for this year looked like….

Slick, no?

Paratus reminder!

A friendly reminder, September 20 is Paratus…the holiday for survivalists. As always, the Paratus FAQ is available for your reading pleasure.

If you’re too lazy to bother, here’s the short version: Paratus is the holiday that is all about preparedness. You are expected to give/receive preparedness-related gifts, engage in preparedness-related activities (which are broadly defined enough to include ‘sitting around with your buddies, drinking beer, and watching The Walking Dead’), and hang out with like-minded individuals. In a perfect world it would be like a heavily-armed version of Mardi Gras.

However….I take it slightly more seriously. I’ll be handing out Paratus gifts to various folks, probably using the day as an excuse to do inventory, and hopefully receiving Paratus wishes and goodies from other survivalists.

As best I can tell, no one has marked down their merchandise and started playing Paratus carols yet, but it’s only a matter of time.

Paratus 2018 is here!

Happy Paratus, fellow survivalists/preppers/doomsters/bunkerdwellers/anti-government extremists/etc!

Go do something awesomely preparedness-related today. Go buy those mags you’ve been wanting, order up those solar panels, purchase that ICOM radio, get that Burt Gummer tattoo you’ve been wanting….today’s the day you don’t need to justify to anyone why you’re doing what you’re doing. (And that’s actually a trick statement….you should never feel the need to justify all that ammo and freeze drieds to anyone.)

My plans? Head to the range and put some ammo through my Low Impulse Control Mini-14GB to make sure the dumb thing works. After that it’s some time at the reloading bench. Then, a little bookkeeping to see if todays the day I pull the trigger (ahem) on the .338 Lapua that I’ve been lusting for these last couple years.

So…get out there! Get together with your fellow LMI and have a Lenny James marathon of ‘Jericho’ and ‘Walking Dead’, go to the range, order pizza and sit around planning your future off grid bugout locations. And let’s hear about what you did today in the name of preparedness.

But..whatever you do today, make it prep-y!

This post brought to you by The Committee To Advance The Paratus holiday.

ETA: A couple folks dropped some folding money in the tip jar as an act of Paratusian generosity. Much obliged!

Paratus approaches!

Two days and then the rest of the 10/22 mags go into the Deep Sleep. Get some!
===================
This is embarrassing…. I’ve been so wrapped up in things around here that I completely forgot that Paratus is next month…and was reminded by ,Rawles mentioning it over at SurvivalBlog.

So..yes…Paratus is coming! It’s September 21’st this year. If you’re unfamiliar with Paratus, the somewhat-semi-official holiday of preparedness, you can read the Paratus FAQ.

Don’t forget – there’s a survival-related gift-giving component to the holiday and nothing fits in the holiday backpack like a couple 10/22 mags that you got a screaming deal on. (And that deal ends in about two days so…chop chop!)

Article – Preparedness Month? Bah, Humbug. Happy Paratus Day! What’s on Sale

For your perusal:

WESTERN MONTANA – So, September is National Preparedness Month. After Hurricane Irma blew through, does anyone feel like Americans are more prepared since “preparedness” got its own month?

Maybe it’s time for our own holiday. That will get people’s bloody attention.

Happy Paratus Day!

It’s like Christmas for the prepared individual and family.

That’s right, kids….it’s been a whole year since the last Paratus holiday. The backpack is by the main egress point in the hopes that the elite Paratus Long-Range Recon Gift Squad will deliver goodies to deserving survivalists like myself.

It’s your holiday, guys….enjoy the heck out of it.

The Paratus FAQ

Paratus reminder

Don’t forget, guys…,.This year Paratus falls on September 15th. You’ve got about three weeks to get your gifts lined up.

Also, this is, I think, the third or fourth year of Paratus. Let’s get it some recognition. Ask your online vendors if they’re having Paratus Day sales. Mention it in your blog. Start nagging Hallmark to make cards. Get your friends (and me) something nice.

It’s a fine holiday, with noble intentions, in need of more acceptance among the masses.

Paratus this Friday

As i just said in the subject line, Paratus is this Friday. This is a great opportunity to take the moral high ground and buy yourself that little geegaw that you’ve been wanting…a new LED flashlight, a spare magazine, your own nuclear power plant, whatever.

It’s also a great opportunity to pick up an item or two as a gift for those who aren’t quite on the wavelength as the rest of us. The post about multitools got some comments about how people are always coming to us to borrow our flashlights or multitools because we’re known as the McGyvers of the office/production floor. Well, Paratus is your opportunity to get them a $10 LED pocket flashlight and maybe make converts.

What does the ol’ Zero want for Paratus? Hmm…well, the things I want most are the things I apparently can’t have, so I  need to stick to what seems more attainable… I’d like a lovingly restored FJ40, a chunk of land with a nice house on it, Jennifer Lawrence with a brain disease that makes her an incurable, but monogamous,  nymphomaniac…t’know, the usual stuff.

Paratus is as good a reason to prepare for the election as anything else. For a reminder of what life can look like for us Ballistic-Americans when a Clinton is in the White House you can view this post.

Regardless, Paratus is your holiday. live it up!
